One goal accomplished.. Sushi!

One of the goals I had for 2010 was to learn how to make sushi. It's a dish I love to eat, and I have heard the difficulty in making it. Still, I figured I had learned enough in the last year that I should be able to attempt it.. with the help of a class or instructor.

.. but alas, that was not meant to be! There is nowhere in Lexington or anywhere nearby that can or will teach you sushi. Believe me - I asked. No sushi chef or restaurant had classes... I'd even asked a few friends, but the timing never worked out and I never had the chance.

However... I DO have a sushi rice recipe in my book, and after trying to plan a girl's sushi night with about 8 friends (and all of them busy), I decided to try it myself. So.. I did. Went to Meijer (grocery store), bought the basic items (seaweed roll, sushi rice, cucumber, crab, salmon, cream cheese) and tried it.

Guess what!! It wasn't that hard... it tasted good.. and I didn't get sick! :) I didn't use wasabi to hold the rolls together, and I do believe that I had a little too much rice (probably b/c I didn't let it cool enough and it was VERY sticky). One of the best parts.. I could feed 6 people for less than $20. Making sushi at home is great!!!
